Experience the remarkable power of rare Blue Tansy essential oil, celebrated for its vibrant blue color and high azulene content. A champion for calming irritated, inflamed, or allergic skin (like eczema), it also gently soothes the nervous system. Important: Highly concentrated; always dilute heavily and be aware it may temporarily stain skin or fabrics.
Blue Tansy essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops of the Tanacetum annuum plant, a specific species of annual tansy native to Morocco. It is not to be confused with common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), which is toxic. The oil is renowned for its striking deep indigo to sapphire blue color, which comes from the natural compound chamazulene, formed during the distillation process. Its aroma is complex: sweet, herbaceous, and fruity with soft, earthy undertones, often compared to a blend of apples, chamomile, and hay. It is a prized and soothing oil in modern aromatherapy.
The high chamazulene content provides exceptional anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and skin-calming properties. It is a top choice for soothing allergic skin reactions, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, and general irritation. Highly effective in after-sun or post-procedure skincare.
A premier oil for calming acute stress, anxiety, panic attacks, and nervous tension. Its gentle, sweet aroma helps quiet the mind, ease emotional overwhelm, and promote deep, restful sleep. Ideal for overstimulated or "burned-out" states.
Helps modulate the body's histamine response, providing relief from seasonal allergy symptoms like itchy eyes, runny nose, and sneezing when used in a diffuser or diluted topical application.
Its antispasmodic properties can help relieve muscle spasms, tension, and discomfort when used in a massage blend.
Soothing Skincare (Diluted): Dilute to 1-2% (1-2 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil) and apply to irritated skin, or add 1 drop to a facial serum or moisturizer. It can temporarily tint the skin blue, which washes off.
Aromatic Diffusion: Add 2-3 drops to a diffuser to calm the atmosphere, ease allergy symptoms, and promote relaxation, especially before bedtime.
Topical Relief Blend: Combine with carrier oil and other calming oils (like Lavender) for a soothing massage on tense shoulders, temples, or the chest during emotional distress.
After-Sun/Soothing Spray: Mix a few drops with Aloe Vera gel and a hydrosol (like Chamomile) for a cooling skin spray.
Specific Species is Crucial: Ensure the botanical name is Tanacetum annuum. Avoid Tanacetum vulgare (Common Tansy), which is high in toxic thujone.
Low Thujone Content: Authentic Moroccan Blue Tansy contains very low, safe levels of α-thujone. Reputable suppliers will provide GC/MS reports confirming this.
Skin Staining: The natural blue color can temporarily stain skin and fabrics. Dilute properly and be cautious.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Not recommended due to its potent effects and lack of comprehensive safety data.
Low Blood Pressure: May have a hypotensive effect; use with caution if prone to low blood pressure.
General Dilution: Always dilute for topical use. Perform a patch test.
Blue Tansy creates beautifully synergistic blends with:
Floral: Lavender, Geranium, Chamomile (Roman & German) – enhances calming and skin-soothing effects.
Woody: Frankincense, Cedarwood (Atlas) – adds grounding depth.
Citrus: Bergamot, Yuzu – lightens the herbaceous notes with brightness.
Mint: Spearmint (in small amounts) – adds a refreshing lift to allergy blends.
